Thailand Population Information!

Beautiful Girl in ThailandThe Thailand population is a diverse one, as Thailand's population numbers are great. The population of Thailand has transcended 67 million people, and more than 10 million of those people reside in the nation's capital, Bangkok. The majority of the population is of Thai descent, though Chinese, Mon, Khmer, Lao, Burmese, Indian and Malay individuals contribute to the nation's ethnic diversity in large numbers because Thailand has historically been a crossroads for migration.

According to recent estimates by the United Nations Population Information Network, by the year 2025 the population of Thailand may reach 71.6 million, and by 2050 the population may reach as many as 74 million residents. With such a large population, it should come as no surprise that the population in Thailand would be extremely diverse, not only in nationality but also religion and other aspects of culture as well. The diverse demographics of Thailand are part of what makes this country so interesting, as cultural, religious and background diversity have helped to shape Thailand's history through the years.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the CIA Factbook, the following demographics of Thailand are as factually accurate as possible, as of 2011.

• The population of Thailand is approximately 67,500,000 people.

• The estimated population growth for 2009 was 0.615%, and the estimated population growth for 2011 is 0.566%.

• 19.9% percent of the population is aged between 0 and 14. • 70.9% of the population is aged between 15 and 64.

• 9.2% of the population is aged 65+.

• 75% of the population of Thailand is Thai or Lao, followed by 14% Chinese. The Lao population is approximately 33%.

• The religious makeup of the population of Thailand is diverse, but primarily Buddhist with 94.6% of the population. Islam follows, making up 4.6% of the population, 0.7% of the population is Christian, 0.1% is Hindu and the remaining 0.1% is made up of other religions, including Judaism.

Understanding the types of people that make up the Thailand population gives insight into Thailand's culture as well as its history. The population of Thailand is a diverse one, but most of the nation's population is still linked to its roots as they are of Thai descent and Buddhist religious background. Thailand also attracts many visitors that contribute to the diversity of the population in Thailand, though many visitors only spend a brief time in Thailand before returning to their home countries.
