What you need to know about Thailand People!
Ever wondered what Thailand people are really like!
Well before you plan your trip to Thailand it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the people of Thailand. After all these are the people that you will interact with daily on your travels, and it would be a great idea to know a bit about these people and where they come from before you arrive in Thailand.
The majority of people in Thailand speak some form of Thai as their native language, the reason being that most residents were actually born in Thailand. The largest resident group of Thai people come from Central Thailand, followed by the Thai-Lao area, then the northern Thai area and finally southern Thailand. For this reason the majority of the people in Thailand share a language, culture and many characteristics.
Other groups of people that live in Thailand include a small population of Chinese, as well as Malay speaking Muslims. Thailand also contains some mountainous areas, and there are a handful of mountain dwelling tribes where the language and culture is completely different from that of most Thai people. While these groups are people from Thailand and they reside in many different locations throughout the kingdom, they are the minorities when it comes to culture and background.
Most Thai people originate from the rural areas, and for this reason the majority of the people of Thailand live on either farms or similar single floor buildings. These buildings are usually grouped into villages that are in close proximity to the surrounding farms. These Thailand people are indeed classed as farmers and spend the majority of their day working at the rice growing farms of the area.
Not all the people of Thailand live and work on farms and in the rice fields. There are growing urban areas like Pattaya and certainly Bangkok where Thai people live in more modern structures. In these areas you will also find that most of the jobs that are available are in the hospitality industry such as hotels, travel, tourism and restaurants. This section of society has steadily been growing over the years, and although it is an important part of life for many Thailand people, it is still relatively small in comparison to rural life and masses that work in the farming industry.
