Pattaya Beaches What to Expect!

As popular attractions of Thailand’s main beach resort areas, Pattaya beaches are well known throughout the world for their activities rather than their scenic beauty.

Pattaya Beach in North PattayaQuite often Pattaya beach is used synonymously in reference to the city of Pattaya, and this can be confusing for tourists. There is, in fact, more than one beach around Pattaya. Four different strips of beach are among the ones that are most preferred by the tourists, and each of these has its pros and cons. While one may be known for its water sports, it is only natural to find that it is extremely crowded as a result. Here is a look at each of the beaches in Pattaya and what to expect from them.

Pattaya Beach

Vibrant is the word that best describes Pattaya beach. This is the stretch where you will find every possible option for entertainment, from water sports on the beach to hotels, restaurants and shopping malls along the shoreline off the beach road. At this beach, you will also get a sense of the city’s nightlife as you see older western tourists frolicking in the water or walking along the shores with nubile young women. Of all the beaches in Pattaya, this is where you need to be if you want to experience the wilder side of Pattaya.

Jomtien Beach

Tourists who are into water sports rate the beach at Jomtien as the best. It is not as crowded and a more family oriented option to Pattaya Beach and is located further to the south of the coastline about 2km away. Often compared to Miami due to the high end residential development along the stretch, this beach has an atmosphere that is more laid back and less commercial, mainly because it is visited by the locals who live in and around the area. While you may not find as many fancy restaurants or food courts and malls, there are seafood restaurants on the beach where you can eat cheap. It is the water sports facilities that sets Jomtien beach apart from other beaches. Here you can have a go at jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides and other activities. If you prefer entertainment on land, you can also choose from elephant rides or go karting.

Wongamat Beach

Wongamat beach which is tucked away to the north of Pattaya is the best place to spend a quiet day sunbathing and relaxing to the sound of the waves washing on to the shore. If you are the kind that appreciates nature and privacy, this is the place to be.

Wongamat Beach in PattayaAlthough it is serene, the bustle of Pattaya is easily accessible as it is just 2km away. Like with the other popular beaches, you will find rows of beach chairs on the waterfront. The difference is that most of them are owned by private resorts and hotels. As a result, the overall crowd is more upmarket in Wongamat beach than you will find on the overcrowded Pattaya stretch. There are a couple of good seafood restaurants and bars located nearby.

Naklua Beach

The stretch of sands furthest north belongs to Naklua Beach. Although this beach is smaller than the other beaches in Pattaya, it is by far the cleanest and the most serene, as the surrounding area is not as developed in comparison to the others. The waters are blue and sparkling, allowing you to see many fish as you swim off shore. This one is also popular with wind surfers, and you can hire wind surfing gear from one of the operators on the beach. There are also some hotels, bars and restaurants located on the beachfront where you can get fresh seafood.

If you are in Pattaya for a few days and are wondering which of the Pattaya beaches you should visit, base your decision on what you are specifically looking for. If you want to be where all the action is, then Pattaya Beach is the best. If you would rather have some peace and quiet or a fun day out with the family, Jomtien to the south or Wongamat and Naklua to the north are better options. Either way, make sure you visit one of the beaches to get a taste of why they are a must see item on most tourist itineraries.
