Outside Bangkok

Eleen Mak's Question is:
Hi, my family and I of 4, with teenage children, will be visiting Bangkok for 4 days. Where can we go to tour and stay if we want to spend about 2 days outside Bangkok, say about 1 to 2 hours drive away. The remaining 2 days we will stay in Bangkok for shopping and eating. We have already been to Phuket, Pattaya, and Chiang Mai. Thank you for your feedback.
My Answer is:
Hi Eleen
Ok, well first of all when you are in Bangkok there are some great places to go and visit like “The Grand Palace” if you take a taxi to the palace and then go inside the entrance you will see some official tour guides who have their identity badges on them, these are the people who will for around 500 baht show you around the Palace and explain the history etc of this magnificent attraction. DO NOT let anyone from the street outside persuade you to go with them as they are usually tricksters. There is also the floating market to visit in Bangkok, and a great one for the evening is the dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River taking Bangkok in by night, and a delicious buffet meal, great fun for a family.
Now with regards outside of Bangkok, what I would suggest is a trip to Kanchanaburi. This is approx 3 hours from Bangkok and where you will find the Bridge on the River Kwai, you can try an elephant trekking trip, visit the Erawan 7 tier waterfall where you can also swim, take a trip on the Death Railway, have a great laugh Bamboo rafting down the River Kwai and loads more things to do. This for a family (or anyone for that matter) is absolutely great fun. If you are after a hotel in Kanchanaburi you can find some here Kanchanaburi Hotels I have personally stayed at The Felix River Kwai Resort Hotel which is right next to the bridge, and is a great hotel for families.
Now I know you said 1-2 hours away but if you wish to have a great time then it is worth the extra hour of travelling. A taxi from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi should cost you around 3,000 baht.
Hope you choose to visit and have a great time.
