How to get to Pattaya – Options and Tips!
Are you planning a trip to Thailand and wondering how to get to Pattaya?
Fortunately, Pattaya is located close enough to Bangkok (just 147 km away), so there are many options for getting there either directly from the airport or from Bangkok city, depending on your itinerary. If you are travelling from other parts of Thailand, using a combination of flights and buses for getting to Pattaya is easy. Instead of stressing yourself out asking how to get there or where is Pattaya, take a look below for the various options.
How to get to Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi International Airport
If you are flying from your home country, then in all probability your flight will land at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Getting from Suvarnabhumi airport to Pattaya is extremely easy as there are direct buses that can get you to Pattaya in just one hour and forty five minutes. Highway 7 and Highway 3 are the two routes that most buses and taxis follow to get to Pattaya quickly.
From Suvarnabhumi airport, all you have to do is go to the ground floor transportation center in the airport, and you can then book one of the Transport Company Buses to Pattaya. Buses leave every 2 hours and cost approximately 124 baht per person one way. They then take you to The Foodmart Supermarket at Jomtien from where you can take a songthaew or baht bus to your hotel. If you would prefer to take a taxi to Pattaya, a one way ride in an air-conditioned cab would cost approximately 1,300 baht.
How to get to Pattaya from Bangkok
Buses depart from Bangkok to Pattaya at half hourly intervals from either the Ekamai bus station on Sukhumvit Road or Morchit bus terminal in northern Bangkok. One way fares for Pattaya travel from either terminal costs approximately 120 baht and take you to the main terminal on Pattaya North Road from where you can easily take a baht bus to your hotel. There is also a train from Hua Lamphong Railway Station in Bangkok to the railway station off Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya. Although the fare is just 30 baht, the journey takes close to three and a half hours and there is only third class seating available. Hence, it is not worth the effort.
How to get to Pattaya from other parts of Thailand
If you are travelling to Pattaya from other places in Thailand, then Bangkok Airways and Orient Thai have flights from Koh Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Although there is no Pattaya airport, the nearby U-Tapao airport in Sattahip town is just a 45 minute drive. If there are no direct flights to U-Tapao from your destination in Thailand, you can take a domestic flight to Don Muang airport in Bangkok. From there, you can either take a taxi to Pattaya or a metered cab to Morchit bus station followed by a bus to Pattaya.
There are trains from other parts of Thailand to Bangkok, if you would prefer to travel slow and take in the countryside. However, train schedules are not dependable and since the cost is not that much lower than taking a budget flight, it might not be worth it unless you want to add a train journey to your Pattaya travel itinerary.
Before you decide on how to get to Pattaya, look at your itinerary and budget. If you are visiting Bangkok first, taking a bus is the easiest option, or if you want to splurge, you can take a Limousine taxi. From other popular destinations such as Koh Samui or Phuket, taking an internal flight to Don Muang airport in Bangkok and then taking a taxi might be the best option for getting to Pattaya.
