The History of Thailand!

The history of Thailand most historians believe can be traced back into the Paleolithic era. Archaeological findings on the north-east hamlet of Ban Chiang imply that the world’s oldest Bronze Age civilization had been growing in Thailand over 5,000 years ago.

It was founded in 1238 by two Thai governors who rebelled against the Khmers, and gave independence to the region. They quickly began to expand the boundaries and the Kingdom.

It was also during this period that the second King of Sukhothai King Rham Khamhaeng came up with a system of writing which became the basis for the modern Thai language. It is said by many that this period was the most flourishing period of Thailand, and as such was considered to be the golden age of Thai culture.

It was only in the 1700’s that the history of Thailand took the turn from its complex political-geographical origin. When this change occurred, Bangkok was then established as the country’s capital and the earliest Chakri dynasty was created under King Rama the Great.

This period also marked the efforts of colonization by major world powers such as Britain and France to develop stronger empires, however Thailand managed to prevent much of the external control that was placed on many different territories throughout Southeast Asia. While many neighboring countries were slowly being colonized by Western Civilizations, Thailand was able to preserve its independence and identity throughout the years of aggression with its powerful rulers.

The advent of the 20th century provided a roller coaster ride for Thailand’s history. Different world events greatly affected its economy and its people. As the country’s new constitutional government was established, Thailand’s government structure changed its identity dramatically.

The last major event to have hit the country and that will be remembered in Thailand history, was the well known Asian Financial Crisis of 2006 which affected the country far more than the other Southeast Asian countries.

Presently, many tourists are encouraged to visit Thailand as it deemed one of the hospitality capitals of the world, and an amazing experience. It is however advisable to learn more about the Culture of Thailand, its history, and the Thailand people to have a deeper understanding of the country.
