The National Flag of Thailand!
The National Flag of Thailand is known as the “Trairanga” meaning Tri-colour.
Although there is only one official Thailand Flag, which is shown below, you will often see a pair of flags flown together. The current Thai Flag which is Red/White/Blue coloured, and which has remained unchanged since 1917, and a yellow flag which is widely used by the public to show support for the King, yellow being the Royal colour. This however is not the official Thailand Flag.

History of the Previous Flag
The previous official Thai Flag was a red flag with a white elephant. It was changed after the flood of 1916, when apparently it was seen hanging upside down by the then King of Siam, this is what the country was then known as. This caused great distress and it was decided a new flag that could not be hung upside down would be adopted.

It was during 1917 that a new red flag with two white bands was initially decided upon, this was however on 28th September 1917 the very same year, changed to the current Thailand Flag by altering the middle red band to blue. The reason for this change was apparently to show solidarity with the allies and remind Thailand of its participation in the First World War.
Siam as the country was previously known changed its name on the 26th June 1939 to what it is presently known as, Thailand.
