Currently you will find six different valued notes and six coins that are in circulation.

1000 baht note - Colour White
500 baht note - Colour Purple
100 baht note - Colour Red
50 baht note - Colour Blue
20 baht note - Colour Green

So as you will see although there are 100 satang to every 1 Thai baht, there are only 2 coins, the 50 and the 25 satang coins. Most tourists are unlikely to ever see either of these coins due to the very small value they have, and as such are mainly used in supermarkets and the larger stores, and tend not to be used in everyday life. You will also notice there is a 10 baht coin and a 10 baht note, however although still legal tender, you will rarely see a 10 baht note, if at all.

During your visit to Thailand you will find that although most department stores, supermarkets and Hotels all accept credit cards. For all other transactions in shops, restaurants, bars and everywhere else, cash is still the number 1 preferred Thailand currency. Please also be aware that if you do use a credit card many stores also charge an additional amount up to 3% of the transaction value to cover fees and costs.

The best advice when visiting Thailand is to take travellers cheques and or cash and exchange your money when you arrive in the country. You will receive a far better rate in Thailand, than you will from your bank back home. Should you feel more comfortable arriving in Thailand with some Thai Baht change a little back home, although as soon as you arrive in the airport you will find numerous exchange booths that will change your hard earned cash. With regards credit cards it is a good idea to take one with you, but use them for larger purchases and emergencies only.
