The Capital of Thailand, a city called Bangkok, is both a commercial and political hub as well as a center for tourism and culture.

Although it may be the tourism that brings so many people to the Thailand capital city, there are many other distinct and interesting characteristics that make this a city worth visiting.

The capital city of Thailand is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in all of Asia, featuring magnificent palaces and temples, busy marketplaces, authentic canals and a nightlife that is vibrant and always seems to have something for everyone. This city always makes a bold first impression on its visitors, as it is the largest city in Thailand and houses more than 11 million residents.

The capital of Thailand is huge and modern, constantly humming with fervor and nightlife energy. From an administrative standpoint, the city is broken up into 50 separate districts which are then further split up into 154 different sub-districts. These districts and sub-districts are primarily used for official business purposes, where as the conceptual breakdown of the Thailand capital is a little different.

Siam Square: The entire surrounding area here is regarded as a commercial core for the Thailand capital city. Here you will find a variety of glitzy shopping malls and upscale hotels. The Skytrain intersection is regarded as being the center for Bangkok.

Sukhumvit: This is an upper class district where you will find nightclubs, hotels and restaurants of great quality. This region of the Thailand capital is especially known for having a naughty image, especially when you consider the Nana Entertainment Plaza and Soi Cowboy.

Silom: This area is known as the financial district during the daytime, however at night this area becomes the primary partying district in the region. Patpong and similar quarters of Silom and Sathorn road become the focal point for the some truly amazing entertainment, they really do come alive at night.

Khao San Road: Khao San Road is known as a Mecca for backpackers, providing everything that a budget traveler might be looking for when visiting the Capital of Thailand.

Rattanakosin: This is an ideal stop for some of the capital's best known sights, such as Wat Pho and the Grand Palace.

Yaowarat and Phahurat: Here you will find a wealth of seafood restaurants, shrines, temples and street markets. Along Yaowarat Road is the capital's Chinatown, and Phahurat Road is regarded as being the center for the capital's Indian community.

Dusit: This is a European styled area that is regarded as the political center for all of Thailand. The monarchy along with a number of other government and political institutions can be found in this area of Bangkok.

Thonburi: Here you will find the famous floating markets, markets built on stilts over the water. For a unique shopping experience, this is a commercial outlet well worth visiting.

Phahonyothin: This is an excellent district if you are looking for bargains on weekends. You will find more than 8000 different stalls selling everything that you can imagine during the Chatuchak Weekend Market.
